the hottest up and coming 20-something bandleaders in the Toronto jazz
community, this 4-part Sunday night jazz series in January 2012 will showcase
bandleaders handpicked by series curator, award-winning trumpeter / bandleader
Brownman Ali.
Known for often employing the city's younger generation of talent in the multitude of ensembles he leads Brownman states, "there's so much unrelenting skill & vision in the 20-somethings of Toronto's jazz world, but our scene is often stratified with the young playing with the young, and the older established guys sticking to their colleagues. I wanted to point a finger at what the next generation is capable of." Original material and impassioned improvising from the next generation of the city's young visionaries will be showcased each Sunday, hosted by one of the nation's vanguards for the evolution of jazz in Canada. |
